Forensic Science

This course creatively integrates a series of investigative, high interest, hands-on activities into the science curriculum. Forensic science will help students better understand, apply and master scientific concepts. The lab activities emphasize the use of scientific inquiry as a way of thinking and problem solving while relating scientific processes to technological and societal issues. This course will feature the identification of unknowns as cooperative teams of students learn chemistry and physics techniques employed in forensic science. After completing techniques associated with a specific crime, students will play the role of forensic detectives, using their chemistry and physics skills to assess their mastery of the concepts and forensic techniques they have learned. They will do this by being actively involved in collecting, analyzing, and interpreting evidence found at a crime scene.
