Matthew McKenzie, tenth grader at Niagara Catholic Jr./Sr. High School, was one of nine students recognized for excellence in Chinese language learning. The University at Buffalo Confucius Institute (UBCI) selected McKenzie because of outstanding performance on a written and oral examination this year. Niagara Catholic Chinese teacher, Linda Lifeng, shared the following about McKenzie: "He has showed great interest in the Chinese language and Chinese culture and did a wonderful performance in his Chinese project and class activity."

McKenzie and the other eight students were invited to participate in the annual Chinese New Year celebration at UB's Center for the Arts at the end of February. They were all able to address the audience and share wishes of happiness and good fortune with all attendees.
